Pour warm water into the reservoir. Turn on the machine and wait for the water to boil. With goggles and gloves on, place the stripper's steam pad firmly on the wallpaper for about 30 seconds. Move the pad, and you should see loose paper. Remove the paper with a scraper. Display paintings in the cleanest, lowest traffic areas possible. Vacuum or mop these areas, rather than sweeping, to minimize airborne dusts. Minimize exposure of acrylics to elevated temperature, especially in combination with dusty conditions. Such areas may be near hot air inlets, in direct sunlight or attics. Carefully grasp a corner of the protective shipping film with your fingers and slowly peel it from the appliance surface. Do not use any sharp items to remove the film. Remove all of the film before using the appliance for the first time. Roll the paper off the sheet and onto the rod. Ideally the dowel gets thrown away at this point, because it will be an equal fight to get the paper off of it. This system works to remove the protective paper off of polycarbonate and sheet acrylic, as well as laser-guard type protection IF the edge is sheared.

This is probably the simplest method you will find for removing the protective plastic film from new appliances. All that is required is a sharp razor blade 3. Since it sounds like the film is disintegrating when you try to peel it: Tape the whole surface, peel the tape (and film) off. You'll need a tape with an adhesive that's more stubborn that the film-to-cabinet bond. I'd probably start with plain old packing tape - fairly strong, usually has good adhesive, inexpensive, can be had wide. If the window film is of high quality, you’ll want to give the solvent solution a try. This is usually the best approach. After applying the solvent, you should give it time to soak. One trick to make sure there is enough solvent is to cover the window with a plastic drop sheet or garbage bag after the film has been saturated. .
